St. Barth Summer Sessions Aug. 5-15, 2011

St Barth Summer Sessions 2011 this year will have a focus on artists from Brazil. The festival will take place at a variety of different venues all over the island, and in the end of the festival there will be a big common concert in the Harbor of Gustavia with all the invited artists.
« St Barth Rocks » is a non-profit organization whose goal is to bring artists and musicians to perform in Saint Barthelémy. « St Barth Rocks » had its beginning on St Jean Bay, La Plage Restaurant.
It will be the third edition that St Barth Summer Sessions will happen this summer, after their release in 2009.
The concept of this association is to help, create and bring a modern music culture to the Island and also to share and celebrate well-known artists as well as to discover new upcoming talented artists.
We are honored to announce that « St Barth Rocks » this year is the promoter of the music festival St Barth Summer Sessions 2011, which will take place between Friday the 5th and Monday the 15th of August in Saint Barthelémy.
Mr. De Badereau, the founder and the president of « St Barth Rocks » and also the creator of St Barth Summer Sessions is working closely with our consultants, Alvaro Kapaz and Tom Howie from the Berklee College of Music in Boston to create a Summer Sessions 2011 of the highest quality.

INVITED ARTIST:

JOSE PADILLA / DJ CAFÉ DEL MAR, IBIZA

DJ and producer of ambient music and best known for his work he did for Café del Mar in Ibiza.
José first arrived on the White Island, Ibiza, in 1975 and has been DJling there ever since. With the ‘Café del Mar’ series he is the so-called “spiritual father of Chill-out”.
He has gone from a poor barrio in Northern Spain, to a jet-set DJ lifestyle; guesting in London, Paris, Monte-Carlo, Amsterdam, Miami, Italy, Moscow, Australia... and serving as a musical ambassador for
the island.
All José’s albums sound as great now as the day they were released, and new fans are still discovering the beauty of José Padilla’s exquisite taste as he continues to search out the finest music from around the world.

 

 

 

 

 

 

ADAM LASHER BAND

This talented guitar player is the youngest in a large family of celebrated musicians.
He happens to be Carlos Santana's nephew, basically making him a “rock 'n' roll demigod.”
His playful sense of humor and distinct talent have set him apart in Los Angeles, where he stands out from the crowd of emerging musicians and has played in clubs from West Hollywood and Beverly Hills to Santa Monica and Malibu.

 

 

 

 

 

ALEX MERRELL

Spinning at top venues and high profile events in LA as well as internationally, DJ Alex Merrell is quickly becoming recognized for being one of the few younger DJs who’s truly all about the music.
Alex style is distinct yet tailored to the room, influenced by house, electro, dance, hip hop, classic and indie rock, top 40, lounge and world music.
Alex has a very wide clientele, been working with for example; UNICEF for their Tap Project Radio campaign, DJing for the Cannes Film Festival and for the Toronto International Film Festival and one of her international residencies is La Plage in St Barth.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ASHLEY RODRIGUEZ TRIO

Ashley Rodriguez, one of the famous finalists and singers from the American Idol 2010.
She graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston 2009, and currently living in the Los Angeles where she continues to pursue her career in music.
Ashley will bring her ‘All Girls Band’ to the St Barth Summer Sessions 2011.
We’ll see Liz on the guitar and Ruby on the piano.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TAIS ALVARENGA

Tais, the Brazilian 23-year-old songwriter, composer, actress and singer, graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in film scoring.
Her music is an immaculately produced blend of Latin pop and folk: both catchy and socially conscious, commenting on the political and economic state of modern-day Brazil.
Her biggest influences are Elis Regina, Sara Tavares, Chico Buarque, and Lenine and Richard Bona.
Tais started working in a recording studio when she was just 10 years old. She has since worked as an actress, dancer, and second director, as well as a backing vocalist for famous Brazilian composers and singers like; Jair Rodrigues, Oswaldo Montenegro, and Nando Reis.

 

 

YO–ONE SUTTER

DJ Yo-One is resident DJ at restaurant La Plage, his music is a mix of Electro acoustic, Soul, Swing, Jazz and Latin Beat and he’s doing a fusion between Live Music and DJ set.
He began his career in the south of France, then continued in east of Europe and living now in the French West Indies, St Barthelemy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TOM HOWIE

Tom Howie is a 22 year-old guitarist and songwriter whose soaring vocals and songwriting talents have drawn comparison to Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke. In November, he will release his third solo album, The Right and Wrong of Everything.
With access to his stepfather’s record collection, artists such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Jeff Buckley enlightened him.
His songwriting followed suit, ” shortly thereafter, he experienced a whirlwind of successes as Tom was discovered by musician and producer Ashwin Sood, played an array of gigs with his new band around Vancouver, was accepted into the Berklee College of Music, recorded his EP The Chester Sessions, and toured the northeast..

 

 

 

JIMMY VALLANCE

At just 21 years of age, Jimmy is already an accomplished and versatile performer and
producer.
Jimmy has shared stage with iconic DJs such as Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Sander Van Doorn, ATB, and Cosmic Gate, to name a few.
His breakthrough came in 2008, when he remixed Sia's track "Buttons," alongside Chris Lake and Marcus Schulz.
Released on Ultra Records, the remix received massive support, and was even included on Pete Tong's Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1.
Jimmy's most recent project shows a return to his rock roots, working on an album with Canadian singer-songwriter Tom Howie that promises to be an innovative blend of organic and electronic sounds

 

 

JOSH FOBARE

Josh Fobare is a professional keyboardist/composer/producer from Boston, MA USA.
He is an avid cross-genre performer; frequently playing with Pop, Rock, and R&B groups as well as classical ensembles and major orchestras throughout the US, Canada, and abroad.
Josh is also part of the band, Project K-Paz, which was created by Alvaro Kapaz and his friends from Berklee College of Music.

 

 

 

 

RYAN FARDY

With an upbringing on the Boston Area blues scene, Ryan has created his own genre, mixing Blues, Rock, Funk, R&B, Soul and Pop.
At 24 years old, Ryan Fardy has had a fantastic start to his 10-year career. He has played to crowds all over New England and the Untied States (Las Vegas, California, Florida…etc), and even Canada.
He has opened for the legendary Chaka Khan, Leon Russell, Edgar Winter, Mountain, Snoop Dogg, Rick Derringer, Hoobastank, and more. He was also the featured cover story for Boston Blues Magazine at the age of 18.

 

 

 

 

 

ABERTO PRA BALANCO TRIO

For as long as it has existed, Aberto Pra Balanço Trio, formed by young São Paulo musicians, the band has rocked at parties, events and concerts in São Paulo and other parts of Brazil, performing often to big audiences.
Aberto pra Balanço was born with a single purpose: ‘make whoever is around our music move through brazilian music and its unique swing’.
Aberto pra Balanço is doing this Trio together with: Alex Walid (voice and acoustic guitar), Fred da Matta (electric guitar and backing vocals) and Heloise (percussion).

 

 

ALVARO KAPAZ

Alvaro was born in São Paulo, Brazil, he awarded the Berklee Achievement Scholarship for his outstanding involvement with the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and he’s also one of
the creators of the band, Project K-Paz.
Alvaro has been developing his unique style, a blend between his Rock/Blues past with his newfound jazz/funk interests.
Project K-Paz, started in January of 2009, the band is comprised of musicians from all over the world, who came together while at Berklee College of Music to start something different, something that does not "belong" anywhere.
Currently, Alvaro is residing in New York, NY, he plays on may projects, bands, and recording sessions, and dedicates to his music on a full-time basis.

 

 

 

 

 

 

GUM’S

GUM’S – 23-year-old Gregory Gumbs, is originally from Saint Barthelemy, signed recently a contract with SONY and now living in Paris to make his music career bigger.
He’s hit single ‘Don’t Give Up’, which is distributed in 9 countries and is currently No. 3 in Canada, came out this year. They are now preparing their 2nd single, that they’ll do in Jamaica that will be realised this summer.
He met producer Cutee B (Hit Maker of Bob Sinclar) which decides on the first hearing to take the project in hand. A few weeks later work, this collaboration gives birth to an album called "Sunshine. "
