Marie-Thérèse Weber, the doyenne of the council members, will preside over the first meeting on Sunday, July 15. The agenda is the election of the six-member executive council and the president of the territorial council. In contrast to the former municipal council, the territorial council members will be paid: 1.831.32 euros for the council members; 2,047.45 euros for the two executive council members; 2,605.84 euros for the four vice-presidents; and 5,397.83 euros for the president. These fees are limited by law and calculated on the same formula as general council members. The territorial council has the right to reduce them if it so desires.
Although it is now legally separated from Guadeloupe, Saint Barth will still be represented socialist deputy Victorin Lurel, from Guadeloupe, in the French National Assembly, until the next legislative elections are held. The senator for the COM will be elected in September 2008.
