Today the prestigious and top-class Caribbean sailing regatta Les Voiles de St. Barth 2012 with Gaastra Sportswear as the official partner starts: At the third edition running from 2nd to 7th april in the French Caribbean sailing paradise Saint Barth, this year more high-class yachts and international sailing teams than ever will challenge. The sailing classes have been extended to six in total, within which the Les Voiles de St. Barth 2012 Entries will rise the challenge facing the Caribbean trade winds: Maxi, Classic and IRC 52, Spinnaker 1 & 2, Non-Spinnaker as well as Racing Multihull. To the power house entries in the Maxi Class belong this year amongst others the Hoek 115′ Firefly with Skipper Mark van Gelderen, Swan Highland Breeze Yacht with Albert Keularts, Rambler 90 with George David, Sojana Yacht with Peter Harrison and also the relatively new Nilaya Yacht with Filip Balcean as skipper and sailing expert Bouwe Bekking as tactician.
Another highlight at the exclusive Saint Barth sailing event: The 52′ yawl Dorade, called by many the world’s most prominent yacht of all time. Launched in 1930 and designed by Olin Stephens, Dorade influenced nearly all developments in yacht design for the next three decades. Purchased in 2010 by Matt Brooks, she will now set sail on her challenging maiden voyage at Voiles Saint Barth 2012 in the classic boat class. The dreamlike St. Barth sailing conditions obviously have spread the word: The extended sailing classes and the number of international entries bigger than ever to the third edition speak for themselves. It’s not surprising, that Les Voiles de Saint Barth with Gaastra as the official partner is called the shooting star amongst all Caribbean sailing regattas!
