Yellow Prickly Pear (Opuntia Dilennii)      This formidable cactus played a historic role in the island's defense. A 1773 decree encouraged residents to plant rows of this cactus along the island's shores to discourage enemy landings. It has bright yellow flowers and produces an edible red fruit.
